Confidence gives you more choice about what you do (and don’t do). More choice about what you say yes or no to. More choice about your career, who you work with and even how much you earn (yes really).
What’s not to love?!
Perhaps you’ve made a start. You’ve read some articles, attended some events, watched some TedTalks and been really motivated and encouraged by what you’ve seen. There’s some great stuff out there - but turning what you see into something that works for you is not always as easy as it could be.
Maybe you’ve invested (or your company has invested on your behalf) in some skills training or leadership programmes. Some of them were great. But some were a bit too theoretical, or not relevant to your own experience, or they gave you loads of ‘tools and techniques’ (what was that model, again?!) or you didn’t feel the trainers really ‘got’ where you were coming from. Maybe there’s a part of you that thinks ‘this is just the way I am and I can’t change’. Well, as Henry Ford said ‘whether you think you can or you think you can’t you’re right’. Finding your confidence does not involve changing who you are. It’s about teasing out what’s there (because it most definitely is there within you) and working with that. These things play havoc with our confidence. (I’ve had to work on my people-pleasing behaviour so I totally get it!)
