How to get to ā€˜the truthā€™

Iā€™ve been noticing how much there is in my inbox about resilience, at the moment. (Youā€™ll find my team resilience articles on LinkedIn if youā€™ve not seen them already).

Iā€™m also noticing something else. How much we love to ā€˜be strongā€™ or be recognised for our ā€˜coping skillsā€™ (Iā€™m guilty as charged).

Weā€™ve often been taught to put on a brave face or a ā€˜stiff upper lipā€™ (so British!).

ā€˜Iā€™m resilientā€™ we tell ourselves (as if resilience is a fixed state rather than something that fluctuates).

So, when someone says, ā€˜are you okay?ā€™ we say ā€˜fineā€™!

But I donā€™t think thatā€™s a great question right now (or ever) if we want to know the truth.

When I ask, ā€˜whatā€™s going on for youā€™? and then shut up, I can have a deeper conversation.

So, let me ask youā€¦. ā€˜whatā€™s going on for you right now?ā€™ because I generally care about you and Iā€™d love to know the answer.

Take good care of yourself (whatever that means for you).

All my best.
